Improving chiller performance and energy efficiency in hydrogen station operation by tuning the auxiliary cooling

In a hydrogen station that operates with direct fueling through the use of 700 bar boost compressor, outlet temperature can significantly increase, stressing chiller system. This paper evaluates improvements be made to auxiliary cooling system integrated compressor. Both theoretical modeling and experiments were performed at Cal State LA Hydrogen Research Fueling Facility. The findings suggest adjusting closed-loop from 15 °C 10 reduced energy consumption decreased demand on needed provide ?20 hose. overall for single by between 2.86 9.43% set conducted. After was 5 °C, compressor dropped 46-50 °C–40 consequently hose declined 3 °C. Results scaled up forecast number daily refueling events. With low fuelings, proposed set-up showed minor influence consumption. However, benefits more pronounced connector sales 180 kg/day, where efficiency improved 1.4 5.5%, even so higher capacity 360 improvement 2.9 8%.
